Embed a Course Introduction Video in Moodle (Kaltura)

Record and place a short welcome video at the top of your course in a few minutes using Kaltura Express Capture. This same process works perfectly for quick course update videos on weekly topics, assignments, or reminders.

Quick Steps

1. Open your course homepage and click Turn editing on.
2. In the top (General) section, click the three dots (⋯) and choose Edit section.
3. Place your cursor where you want the video to appear (ideally at the top).
4. In the editor toolbar, click the Kaltura / Add media button (often a spark / “firework” icon).
5. Select Add New → Express Capture to record in the browser.
   • Allow the browser to use your camera and microphone.
   • Choose the correct camera/mic from the dropdowns if needed.
6. Click Record, deliver a short welcome (name, course, how to get started), then click Stop.
7. Review the recording. If satisfied, click Use This (or Save).
8. Give the video a clear title (e.g., Course Introduction 2025) and optional description/tags.
9. Click Save and Embed.
   • Optional: Choose Thumbnail Embed and a size (e.g., 400×285) for a clean layout.
   • For full-width, choose a responsive player if available (width 100%).
10. Back in the section editor, click Save changes.
11. Confirm the video appears at the top of the course page (processing may take a moment).

Troubleshooting

• No camera/mic prompt: Check browser permissions (lock icon → Site settings → Allow camera/mic) and refresh.
• Video shows “processing”: Wait a short time, then refresh; longer videos take more time to transcode.
• Can’t find Kaltura button: Expand the editor’s toolbar (»). If missing, contact your LMS admin to confirm Kaltura is enabled.
• Wrong device selected: Open Express Capture settings and choose the correct camera/mic before recording.
