A collection of common problems that can occur when creating quizzes. If an issue that you are having is not listed here then drop an e-mail to edtech@okanagan.bc.ca and someone in the Learning & Applied Research Team will be able to assist.
Matching questions are not graded accurately
If you have a question with multiple matching answers that are the same then the first thing to check is that the similar answers do not have differences in capitalisation.
For instance if we have the following question then because the capitalisation is different in answers 2 & 3 is is possible for the student to get marked incorrectly even if they select 'Cat' or 'cat' as the answer.
Using copy and pasted for similar answers to these matching questions will help to fix this.
Q: Match the breed to the species.
1: Shitzu = Dog
2: Burmese = Cat
3: Sphynx = cat
The last option should read:
3: Sphynx = Cat

Check Quiz Availability if Students Cannot See a Quiz
- Go to Quiz > Gear > Edit Settings
- Check the following:
- Timing - dates may be set for the previous dates the course was run
- Restrict Access - a useful feature that can enable access upon a previous task completion. If students can't see your quiz then you may need to adjust restrictions.
- On the course page make sure the quiz activity is not hidden from students (see below). Click Edit > Show or check the two options listed above.
- Make sure the Students on your course have the correct role. Go to Your Course > Participants and look in the Roles column. If any students are listed with No Role they will not be able to access the quiz. You can change this yourself or contact the Learning & Applied Research team for more support.
