Make Sure Students Receive Course Announcements

Course announcements appear in Brightspace, but students choose whether to receive email notifications when an announcement is posted or updated. Encourage students to check their notification settings and regularly visit the course to stay informed.

If an announcement needs to reach students by email, you can also send a message to the class through Brightspace.

Ask Students to Turn On Announcement Notifications

Students can follow these steps to receive an email when a course announcement is posted or updated:

1. In Brightspace, select your name or profile image in the upper-right corner.
2. Select Notifications.
3. Under Instant Notifications, select the email checkboxes for Announcements - new announcement available and Announcements - announcement updated.
4. Select Save at the bottom of the page.

The highlighted settings turn on email notifications for new and updated announcements.

Help Students Receive OC Email

Brightspace uses the Okanagan College email address associated with each student’s account. Students cannot replace that address with a personal email address in Brightspace. If they prefer to use another inbox, they can set up forwarding from their OC Outlook account.

For a message you want to send by email, use the Brightspace Classlist to email your whole class or selected students. Check your Reply-To setting so student replies reach your Okanagan College inbox.
