Grades: How to delete an item in Brightspace Grades

Deleting an Item from the Brightspace Gradebook

Before deleting a grade item, you must disconnect it from any associated quiz or assignment. Once the association has been removed, the item can be deleted from Manage Grades.

If your grade item is greyed out when you first try to remove it then follow these steps.

Step 1: Remove the Gradebook Association

  1. Go to Content in your course or to the Assignments or Quizzes page under the Assessments menu.
  2. Select the associated Quiz or Assignment.
  3. Select the three dots, then choose Edit.
  4. Change In Gradebook to Not in Gradebook.

Step 2: Delete the Grade Item

  1. Go to Course Admin or Assessments > Grades.
  2. Select Manage Grades.
  3. Open the More Actions menu and select Delete.
  4. Select the grade item. It should no longer be greyed out.
  5. Confirm the deletion.

Alternative Option

If the quiz or assignment is no longer needed, you can delete it completely. This will also remove its association with the gradebook item.
