Export an H5P Activity from Moodle and Import it into Brightspace

This guide explains how to download an H5P activity from Moodle and import it into a Brightspace content page using Creator+ Interactives.

  • Enable H5P download in Moodle
  • Download the activity as a .h5p file
  • Import the H5P file into a Brightspace page
  • Preview and test the imported activity

Step 1: Open the H5P Activity in Moodle

Begin in the Moodle course that contains the H5P activity you want to move into Brightspace.

  1. Open your Moodle course.
  2. Go to the H5P activity you want to export.
  3. Make sure Edit mode is turned on.

Step 2: Open the Activity Settings

The H5P download option needs to be enabled in the activity settings before the file can be downloaded.

  1. From the H5P activity page, open the activity Settings.
  2. Scroll down to the Display options section.

Step 3: Enable Allow Download

Allowing download makes the H5P file available from the activity page.

  1. Open the Display options menu.
  2. Check Allow download.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page.
  4. Select Save and display.

Step 4: Download the H5P File from Moodle

Once downloading is enabled, Moodle provides a download option through the reuse content menu.

  1. On the H5P activity page, select Reuse content.
  2. Select Download as an H5P file.
  3. Save the file to your computer.

The file will have the extension .h5p. It will usually save to your Downloads folder.

Step 5: Create a New Page in Brightspace

Next, move into Brightspace and create the page where the imported H5P activity will appear.

  1. Open your Brightspace course.
  2. Create a new content page, or open an existing page where you want to add the activity.

Step 6: Open Creator+ Authoring Tools

Creator+ Authoring Tools are used to add interactives to Brightspace pages.

  1. In the Brightspace page editor, select the Creator+ Authoring Tools button.
  2. This is the small paintbrush and pen icon.
  3. Select Interactives.

Step 7: Import an Existing Interactive

Use the import option to bring the H5P file into Brightspace.

  1. Select Import Existing Interactive at the top right.
  2. Select Add Content.
  3. Under Select Content Type, choose Upload.

Step 8: Upload the H5P File

Choose the .h5p file that you downloaded from Moodle.

  1. Select Upload File.
  2. Navigate to the folder where the Moodle H5P file was downloaded.
  3. Select the .h5p file.
  4. Select Open.
  5. Select Use.

Step 9: Save and Insert the Activity

After the file uploads, Brightspace will import the H5P activity as an interactive.

  1. Preview the imported activity to make sure it appears correctly.
  2. Select Save and Insert.
  3. Select Insert.

Step 10: Skip Grade Item for Previewing

Brightspace may ask whether you want to add a grade item for the interactive.

  1. If you are only testing or previewing the activity, select Skip for now.
  2. You can return later to connect the activity to grades if needed.

Step 11: Save and Test the Brightspace Page

Finish by saving the Brightspace page and checking that the activity works correctly.

  1. Select Save and Close on the Brightspace page.
  2. Open or preview the page.
  3. Test the H5P activity to confirm it works as expected.

Summary

To move an H5P activity from Moodle to Brightspace, enable Allow download in Moodle, download the activity as a .h5p file, and then import that file into a Brightspace page using Creator+ Authoring Tools and Interactives.

After importing, save the page and test the activity to make sure it works correctly.
