Moodle for Educators

Moodle is an open source Learning Management System (LMS). It allows students to access course materials, gain feedback, upload work, see grades and much more all by logging in to their very own online account. It may be used as a primary point of contact for online classes or as a supplement to traditional classroom lectures. All work is stored and accessible from home or on-campus. Each course section has it's own unique Moodle website and an individual section is recreated with a new term. Course content can be copied from section-to-section.

Moodle is our portal for information regarding classes students are registered in or to attend an online class whereas myOkanagan is our administrative portal for course registration and other administrative functions.

Use Moodle to:

  • Create access links to online classes in Zoom or Kaltura
  • Provide links to download course outlines, class notes or assignments
  • Create links for students to upload assignments, record audio/video or create drawings
  • Publish coursework grades
  • Create online quizzes and exams for electronic submission
  • Chat with or email students or create discussion forums or breakout groups
  • Publish a course schedule or assignment due dates
  • Individual sections may be hidden from students view until a specific condition is met based on various criteria (time, date, student having completed a quiz or assignment, or viewed a page).

Moodle is fully customizable and you may or may not use all of the above features.

By default views of courses in Moodle are divided into Past, Current and Future however individual views are customizable and what you see may change depending on what preferences you have set.
