Connect MyOkanaganMath to Brightspace
This guide explains how to connect a MyOkanaganMath (MOM) course to a Brightspace course and link assessments so students can access them directly from Brightspace.

- Configure the Brightspace gradebook for MOM assessments
- Connect a Brightspace course to a MOM course
- Add MOM assessments to Brightspace Content
- Configure due dates, availability, and completion tracking
- Manage grade items and categories
Before You Begin
Before connecting your courses, ensure that both your Brightspace course and MyOkanaganMath course have been created and configured.
- Ensure your Brightspace course shell exists.
- Create and configure your MyOkanaganMath course.
- Make the MyOkanaganMath course available to students.
- Disable self-enrollment in MyOkanaganMath.
- Set start and end dates for the course.
- Configure settings such as late passes before students begin accessing assessments.
Configure the Brightspace Gradebook
Before linking assessments, it is recommended that you configure your Brightspace gradebook to use a Weighted grading system.
This is particularly important when MyOkanaganMath assessments have different point values but should contribute equally to the final course grade.
- Navigate to Assessments > Grades.
- Open the Setup Wizard.
- Change the grading system from Points to Weighted.
- Complete the remaining setup steps using your preferred settings.
Connect Your MyOkanaganMath Course
To establish the course connection:
- Navigate to the Brightspace Content area.
- Open the module where you want to place the assessment.
- Select Add Existing.
- Choose the MyOkanaganMath external learning tool.
- Sign in to MyOkanaganMath if prompted.
- Select the MyOkanaganMath course you want to connect.
- Select Continue.
The Brightspace course and MyOkanaganMath course only need to be connected once.
Add a MyOkanaganMath Assessment
- Select the assessment you want to add.
- Choose Create Link.
- Wait for the assessment to be added to Brightspace.
The assessment will appear as a content topic and students will be able to launch it directly from Brightspace.
Configure Assessment Settings
After creating the assessment link, review the Brightspace activity settings.
- Add a Brightspace due date.
- Configure start and end dates.
- Choose whether the assessment opens embedded or in a new tab.
- Configure completion tracking settings.
Important: Brightspace due dates are not synchronized with MyOkanaganMath due dates. If you change the due date in MyOkanaganMath, you must also update the due date in Brightspace.
Managing Grade Items
When a MyOkanaganMath assessment is added, Brightspace automatically creates an associated grade item.
To organize these grade items:
- Navigate to Assessments > Grades.
- Select Manage Grades.
- Edit the associated grade item.
- Assign it to the appropriate grade category.
Important: Avoid changing categories from within the Content activity settings, as this can create duplicate grade items.
Student Experience
Students access MyOkanaganMath assessments directly from Brightspace Content.
- Launch assessments directly from Brightspace.
- View due dates and reminders.
- Track completion progress.
- View grades through the Brightspace gradebook.

Tips and Best Practices
- Configure late passes before students access assessments.
- Use a Weighted gradebook when assessments have different point values.
