Teaching During the Moodle Outage – Monday, March 23, 2026

BCNet has scheduled a non-optional provincial infrastructure upgrade for Monday, March 23, 2026.

  • Date: Monday, March 23, 2026
  • Upgrade Window:  Approximately 5:00 am - 5:00 pm (maximum)

We are hopeful that the necessary work will be completed by around noon, however, we anticipate this to be an intermittent outage that may impact certain geographic locations as the network changes propagate.

 

We apologize for the inconvenience this outage may cause and recommend making alternative teaching plans for this time. If you have any questions or need support, please contact the Education Technology team at edtech@okanagan.bc.ca.

If you are teaching a synchronous online class that day, the guidance below will help you prepare.

What This Means

  • You will not be able to access Moodle during the outage window.
  • Students will also be unable to access your Moodle course.
  • Kaltura Classroom will not be available, because it can only be opened through Moodle.

Recommended Alternative: Use Zoom

If your class normally meets in Kaltura Classroom, please plan to switch to Zoom for Monday, March 23.

Because Moodle will be offline, students will need access to your Zoom link before Monday.

Before Monday: What Instructors Should Do

  1. Create a Zoom meeting for your regular class time.
  2. Share the Zoom link with students ahead of time using email or another communication channel they can access outside Moodle.
  3. Send a reminder before Monday, so students know Moodle will be unavailable and understand how to join class.
  4. Save any teaching materials you need in advance, since you will not be able to retrieve them from Moodle during the outage.

If you are not sure whether you already have a Zoom account, try the Forgot Password option using your Okanagan College email address.

Because Moodle will be unavailable for much of the day, please save this link before Monday.

Day-of Tips

  • Open your Zoom room a few minutes early.
  • Have any files, slides, or links ready on your computer before class begins.
  • Be prepared for a few students who may miss the change and need a reminder.
  • Track attendance manually if needed.
