1 What is GlobalProtect VPN?
OC employees who are off-site can gain access to on-campus resources by creating a VPN connection using GlobalProtect software. A Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection makes a remote device appear to be physically on the Kelowna Campus — allowing access to services such as on-campus printers, restricted myOkanagan features, and more.

Important: Due to provincial privacy legislation and encryption requirements, this service is normally restricted to college-owned devices only.
2 Find the GlobalProtect Icon
- Look to the bottom-right of your taskbar and click the ^ (hidden icons) arrow near the clock
- Look for the GlobalProtect globe icon:
- 🔘 Grey globe = Disconnected
- 🟢 Green globe = Connected
3 Connect to the VPN
- Click the GlobalProtect icon in your taskbar
- Enter the VPN portal address for your needs:
| Portal Address |
Use For |
| gp.okanagan.bc.ca |
General VPN — basic access to most systems |
| octeam1.okanagan.bc.ca |
Restricted VPN — basic access plus Banner access (pre-approved users only) |
- Click Connect
- Enter your OC credentials and complete MFA authentication when prompted
Note: You may occasionally see a pop-up saying GlobalProtect needed to change the connection type. This is normal — simply close the message and continue.
4 Possible Slowing of Internet Traffic
GlobalProtect creates a virtual tunnel that routes your internet traffic through the Kelowna KLO campus. This makes your computer appear to be on campus, but it means your traffic takes additional hops — which can cause latency (slowness) for general internet browsing.
Tip: Only connect to GlobalProtect VPN when you need to access on-campus resources. Disconnect VPN for general work using online services such as Microsoft 365, Teams, or personal web browsing to avoid unnecessary slowness.
