Overview

This guide explains how to add images to your course. It covers uploading a thumbnail for your course dashboard and inserting images into course pages, assignments, and other activities.


1. Uploading a Thumbnail for Your Course Dashboard

  1. Go to Course Settings:

    • Navigate to your course dashboard and click on Settings.
  2. Locate the Course Image Option:

    • Scroll down to the Course Image section.
  3. Upload an Image:

    • If the image is ready, open the folder on your desktop, drag the image, and drop it into the Course Image Dropbox.
    • Alternatively, click Choose File, browse your folders, and upload the desired image.
  4. Save the Image:

    • Scroll down and click Save and Display.
    • Return to the dashboard to verify the thumbnail is visible.
  5. Replacing an Existing Thumbnail:

    • In Settings, scroll to the Course Image section.
    • Click the current image and select Delete.
    • Upload a new image by dragging it into the dropbox or using the file browser.

2. Adding Images to Course Pages

  1. Turn on Edit Mode:

    • Navigate to your course and enable Edit Mode.
  2. Insert Text and Media:

    • Click Add an Activity or Resource and select Text and Media Area.
    • Browse repositories to upload an image:
      • Click Choose File, locate the image, and upload it.
    • Add a Description for accessibility purposes (e.g., "Image of a dirt bike").
    • Adjust image dimensions (e.g., 800x632 pixels) and alignment if necessary.
  3. Save and Return:

    • Click Save and Display. The image will now appear on the main course page.

3. Adding Images to Assignments

  1. Create or Edit an Assignment:

    • Add or edit an assignment from your course page.
  2. Insert an Image in Instructions:

    • In the Activity Instructions text box, click the Insert or Edit Image icon.
    • Browse your repositories and select an image:
      • Choose from Recent Files or upload a new file.
  3. Add a Description or Mark as Decorative:

    • Enter a description (e.g., "Image of a dirt bike in action") to improve accessibility.
    • Alternatively, check the box for This image is decorative only if no description is needed.
  4. Save the Assignment:

    • Click Save and Display to preview the image and assignment instructions.

4. Adding Images to Other Activities

  1. Insert Images in Quizzes, Pages, or Other Text Areas:

    • Wherever a text editor is available (e.g., in quizzes, forum posts, or pages), click the Insert or Edit Image icon.
    • Follow the same process to upload or select an image from repositories.
  2. Adjust Image Settings:

    • Resize or align the image as needed.
    • Add accessibility descriptions for each image.

5. Accessibility Considerations

  • Add Descriptions:
    • Always include a description to ensure your course is accessible to all users.
  • Mark Decorative Images:
    • For non-essential images, select This image is decorative only to bypass the description.

6. Preview and Finalize

  • Review all images on the course dashboard and within activities.
  • Test for accessibility and proper placement.
