Privacy
Data privacy refers to the rules governing the collection, use, disclosure and storage of personal information. All OC faculty and staff members are legally required to follow these rules as set out by the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA). A key concept within FIPPA is "personal information", which is defined as “recorded information about an identifiable individual". OC can only collect and use personal information for official OC business, and cannot sell, share, disclose or store outside of Canada without consent.
OC must use authorized tools such as Teams, Microsoft Office 365, OC email and internal tools to conduct work, rather than some cloud-based tools.
It is important to know when and when not to share confidential information. Every time information is shared, there is a risk it might be accessed by someone not authorized to see it. It is your responsibility to be mindful of the sensitivity of the information you are responsible for, and to share, use and store this information in an appropriate manner.
