Fixing Zoom Breakout Rooms Not Working in Moodle

If breakout rooms aren’t showing up or working in Zoom meetings launched from Moodle, follow these steps to reconnect your Zoom account and review key settings.

  1. 1. Sign out of Zoom completely

    Log out of Zoom in both the desktop app and your browser.

  2. 2. Go to zoom.com and sign in

    Open a browser, go to zoom.com, click Sign In, and log in with your college Zoom account (the same email used in Moodle).

  3. 3. Check your Zoom Profile

    On your Profile page, confirm your account type is Licensed and your email matches your Moodle account.

  4. 4. Turn on Breakout Rooms

    Go to Settings → In Meeting (Advanced) and switch Breakout room to ON. (Optional) Enable Allow host to assign participants… if you pre-assign rooms.

  5. 5. Open Zoom activity in Moodle

    In your Moodle course, open the Zoom activity.

  6. 6. Start the meeting from Moodle

    Launch your Zoom session directly from the Moodle Zoom link (not the standalone Zoom app), then test Breakout Rooms.
