Adding a Link in Moodle
Summary
This tutorial shows how to add a link in Moodle by turning editing on, selecting URL, pasting the copied web address, naming it, and saving.
Body
Turn Editing On
Go to your Moodle course and click
Turn editing on
(top right).
Choose Where to Add the Link
Scroll to the section where you want the link and click
Add an activity or resource
.
Select “URL”
Under
Resources
, choose
URL
and click
Add
.
Copy the URL You Want to Share
Open a new browser tab and go to the website or document you want to link.
Click once in the browser’s address bar to highlight it, then press
Ctrl + C
(Windows) or
Command + C
(Mac) to copy.
Enter Link Details in Moodle
In
Name
, type the text students will see (e.g.,
Course Syllabus
).
In
External URL
, click the box and paste your link with
Ctrl + V
(Windows) or
Command + V
(Mac).
Adjust Settings (optional)
In
Appearance
, choose how the link opens (same window or new window).
Optionally add a description for context.
Save and Return to Course
Scroll down and click
Save and return to course
. Your link will appear in the section.

Create or edit a
Page

Label
in your course.
Highlight the text you want to turn into a link.
Click the
link icon
(chain symbol) in the editor toolbar.
Paste your copied URL with
Ctrl + V
(Windows) or
Command + V
(Mac).
Click
Create link
or
Apply

Save
.
