Adding interactivity to your Moodle course doesn’t have to be complicated. One of the simplest ways to engage students—whether in class or online—is to embed a Microsoft Form or Quiz directly into Moodle. This lets you collect quick feedback, run a fun quiz, or spark discussion without sending students out to another platform.
In the video below, we walk through how to embed Microsoft Forms into Moodle step by step. If you prefer to follow along in text, here’s the full guide.
Why Use Microsoft Forms in Moodle?
Microsoft Forms is a flexible tool for creating surveys, polls, and quizzes. While Moodle has a full Quiz activity that’s great for assessments, Forms is perfect for quick, lightweight interactions such as:
- Icebreaker polls
- In-class feedback
- Quick knowledge checks
- Fun challenges that don’t need grading
The advantage is speed: you can create a form in minutes, share it with students via link, QR code, or directly embed it into your Moodle course page.
Step-by-Step Guide: Embedding Microsoft Forms in Moodle
1. Open Microsoft Forms
- Go to office.com and log in with your institutional account.
- From the Apps menu, select Forms.
2. Create a Form or Quiz
- Click New Form to collect feedback or information.
- Click New Quiz if you want to add questions with correct/incorrect answers.
Note: Microsoft Forms quizzes don’t link to Moodle’s Gradebook. They’re best for practice or informal learning activities.
3. Build Your Form
- Add questions using multiple choice, text, ratings, or other formats.
- Review the Responses tab to see how results are displayed—Microsoft Forms will automatically summarize results and let you export data to Excel.
4. Get the Share Link or QR Code
- Click Collect Responses.
- Options include:
- Link: Copy the URL to share directly in Moodle.
- QR Code: Download an image that students can scan from a screen or handout.
- Embed Code: Copy an iframe snippet to embed the form directly in Moodle.
5. Add a Link in Moodle
- Turn Editing On in your Moodle course.
- Select Add an activity or resource → URL.
- Paste the form’s link and give it a descriptive name (e.g., Sports Heroes Challenge Quiz).
This creates a clickable link in your course. Students will complete the form in a new tab.
6. Embed the Form in Moodle
To keep everything inside Moodle:
- Choose Add an activity or resource → Page.
- In the content editor, click the HTML button (the chevron icon
</>).
- Paste the iframe embed code from Microsoft Forms.
- Save and display.
Now the quiz or form appears right inside your Moodle course—students don’t need to leave Moodle to complete it.
7. Share with a QR Code in Moodle
- Download the QR code from Microsoft Forms.
- In Moodle, add a Text and Media Area.
- Insert the QR code image so students can scan it with their phones.
Collecting and Reviewing Results
- All responses are stored in Microsoft Forms.
- Use the Responses tab to view a summary of results.
- Export results to Excel for deeper analysis or record-keeping.
Best Uses for Moodle + Microsoft Forms
- Quick polls during lectures
- Gathering student feedback mid-course
- Low-stakes practice quizzes
- Collecting research or survey data
This approach keeps your Moodle course interactive without the setup required for a full Moodle Quiz.
